A quick jaunt to the Caribbean

BlogDog cruised over to Cuba Cuba, a Caribbean restaurant on 12th Ave. and Delaware. He looked around at the colorful decor and almost felt like he was on an island.

Matt and Mary thought having a mojito would complete the feeling.

Goodbye Rocky

The Rocky Mountain News published its last edition today, leaving one less newspaper for BlogDog to fetch.

He went to pay his respects to the 150-year-old Denver daily.

I'll be right there!

BlogDog has his moments of civil disobedience -- jumping up on guests when he knows he shouldn't, acting like he doesn't understand the command "sit" or refusing to share the bed.

But usually, he is happy to come when called.

Getting modern on Speer Blvd.

BlogDog was quite taken with this window at ZModern at 1132 N. Speer Blvd.

Although his design taste runs more towards the fuzzy, BlogDog does have a good esthetic appreciation for contemporary furnishings.

The wilds of Cherry Creek

BlogDog took to the tall grasses along the Cherry Creek bike path this morning.

He moved with stealth, enjoying a hunt in a private world only he could perceive.

Sunday morning services

BlogDog was intrigued by the open door at St. John's Cathedral this morning. Since 1911, Episcopalians have been attending Sunday services at this location on 14th Ave. and Washington St.

Although churches usually welcome all visitors, Mary wasn't sure how welcoming they would be to BlogDog. She decided they wouldn't go inside and find out.

BlogDog visits the giant dancers

Today was BlogDog's first visit to the two giant dancing men on Speer Blvd.-- officially known as "Dancers," by artist Jonathan Borofsky.

He seemed to like the sculpture, which was installed in 2003 at the Denver Performing Art Center sculpture park as part of Denver's Public Art Program. He definitely liked being outside on a lovely Saturday.

The "unsinkable" who?

BlogDog visited the restored home of the "Unsinkable"
Molly Brown at 1340 Pennsylvania Ave.

Before visiting the museum, he didn't know much about this legendary Denver resident.

To be honest, BlogDog didn't know much more after visiting -- but Matt and Mary did.

It was a peaceful morning until suddenly...

It was a peaceful morning at Civic Center Park.

BlogDog sat on the stairs of the Capitol building, quietly posing for photos until (!) he detected the "clickety click" of rapidly approaching squirrel feet.

Where was BlogDog Wednesday?

It's Wednesday night again -- and that means it's time to try to answer the question, "Where was BlogDog Wednesday?"

Hint: If you worked for is a "non-profit, membership organization dedicated to supporting the nearly 150 charter schools in the state," you would know this spot well.

What would be more stimulating is a squirrel

BlogDog sat patiently in the car waiting for Mary to drive him to the Museum of Nature and Science to see President Obama the $787 million stimulus bill into law today.

Although BlogDog was disappointed that the "tax-free rawhide for all" clause was omitted from the final stimulus package, he still looked forward to getting out of the house.

Presidents' Day delight at Don's

BlogDog started his day by reflecting on the great Americans who have served as our president.

He then reflected on his favorite chew toy and on the charm that has kept locals visiting Don's Mixed Drinks since Harry S. Truman was in the White House.

An epic moment at Cheeseman Park

BlogDog went on high alert Sunday morning at Cheeseman Park as a squirrel climbed a tree not ten yards from where BlogDog stood.

Since BlogDog was on a leash, it never got more exciting the moment in this photo.

On the lookout for love

The Whole Foods store in Capitol Hill was bustling this Valentine's Day afternoon.

From his spot outside the store, BlogDog patiently kept a lookout for happy couples who might share their affection or groceries with a cute dog.

He's gone country

BlogDog threw on his country attire and headed for the Grizzly Rose to see Little Big Town perform tonight.

Although he got there early, he wasn't able to get in.

He got over it quickly and had a good day anyhow.

What's a workout?

BlogDog doesn't quite get the concept of a workout. "Running is what you do when there's a squirrel to chase," he thinks. "Strong is what you get when you pull hard on your leash."

But, he is still happy to hang out at the pullup bar at Washington Park and watch.

Would you rather...

...sit on the wet ground in the snow for a photo with the dome of Colorado capitol building glowing beautifully in the background?

Or check out the guy sitting on the bench with the blankets over there to see if he'll pet you?

BlogDog really wanted to go for the second option tonight.

Fun fact in sandwich history

Why, you may wonder, is BlogDog spending his valuable time posing in front of a dusty old Quiznos?

Because, he would tell you, it's not any Quiznos. This particular shop, located at 13th Ave. and Grant St., is the first in what is now a chain of more than 5,000 Quiznos stores around the world. That's a Denver fun fact he wants to share!

No zoo for you!

More than 1.5 million visitors each year see these colorful flags at the entrance to the 80-acre Denver Zoo.

Matt and Mary had to explain to BlogDog why he was not allowed inside to roam Predator Ridge with the spotted hyenas and African wild dogs. He put on a stoic facade for this picture, but was really quite bummed.

Saturday on Old South Pearl

BlogDog was happy to mingle with Saturday shoppers on Old South Pearl Street.

He eagerly greeted every shopper in this popular, historic area with a tag wag and an eager look. "Pet me! Love me! Give me treats!"

Follow canines were greeted a curious caution and a thorough sniff.

BlogDog appreciates the arts in the Highlands

The mural at Valdez Elementary School on 29th Ave. in the Highlands neighborhood catches BlogDog's eye.

He may not be a master of the arts, but he knows what he likes.

Denied at the doggie bakery

Three Dog Bakery, in the Cherry Creek North shopping area, sells cute doggie treats for fancy dogs. Pooches are allowed in the store, but their owners are not allowed to photograph their pet or the treats inside the business for "copyright reasons," we were told.

Instead, here's a photo of BlogDog sniffing the sidewalk outside.

We hope one day he will be invited to take his picture inside the store. And given some more treats.

BlogDog, a horse and a chair

A 6-foot horse stands on a 21-foot red chair outside the Denver Public Library and generally attracts a lot of attention.

The artist, Donald Lipski, said of his statue, which is officially titled "The Yearly, "If it makes people stop and feel something they haven’t felt before, I’m happy.”

The work didn't seem to have quite the effect Lipski had hoped on BlogDog.

Six more weeks of winter?

BlogDog was not excited when famous groundhog Punxsutawney Phil saw his shadow and predicted six more weeks of winter.

Warm weather means longer walks -- and longer walks mean more fun for BlogDog!

Getting ready for the Super Bowl

Though BlogDog likes his brews, he thinks a nice merlot might be just right with the ground beef hors d'oeuvres and rawhide he's planned for his Super Bowl party.
