Each finds his own beauty in nature

Mary and BlogDog were driving on 14th Ave. in Congress Hill when they came upon a yellow tree soaked in late afternoon sunshine. The tree glowed as if someone flipped its "on" switch.

Mary was dazzled by its beauty. BlogDog only became interested when a squirrel appeared on the scene.

Golden nugget of shopping

Cherokee Row is a one-block nook of cool, independently owned shops located between Delaware and Cherokee on 11th Ave. Stop by and grab a slice at the Denver Pizza Company or sit down for an organic salad at Parsley. Stop in for flowers at Flower Gallery or check out Mile High style-makers at Fashion Denver.

BlogDog always seems to perk up when he gets into the neighborhood. Mary is not sure if it is his enthusiasm for supporting Denver businesses, or the treats they give him at the specialty pet food store on the block.

A superlative day

Today may have been the most beautiful day ever in Denver -- or at least it felt that way to Mary and BlogDog.

They strolled around Fred N. Thomas Memorial Park on E. 25th Ave. and Quebec and found the sunniest batch of lawn chairs neatly lined up along the edge of a soccer field.

Children were running around kicking a soccer ball. The adults were in a nearby pavilion drinking.

Denied at the Beer Fest

The Great American Beer Festival cracked open in Denver this weekend.
Colorado residents like their beer. The festival was sold out. Scalpers were hawking tickets to people eager to get inside the convention center and taste the goods from 457 brewers at the event.
BlogDog didn't have a ticket. He briefly thought his blog-fame might make him a VIP, but that didn't work out for him.

Peace, beauty and fresh fish

As the sun went down over the lake at Wash Park, Matt, Mary and BlogDog reflected on the splendor of the scene.

Well, BlogDog appeared to be reflecting -- then Matt realized that he was just waiting patiently until the right moment lunge at the fish swimming close to shore.

September 24, 2009

Ready, willing and eager

Temperatures in Denver lingered in the 40s again today. Cold rain fell on and off during the afternoon.

But, BlogDog wanted to make it clear to Matt that he was ready and willing to go for a walk. A little drizzle was no deterrent -- no sir, no deterrent at all.

Where was BlogDog Wednesday?

For this edition of "Where was BlogDog Wednesday?", BlogDog put on a jaunty look and headed to hear some tunes.

Can you identify this jazz outpost? To see if you are right, click here.

I guess I should have spoke up

BlogDog hopped in the car with Mary and they headed south to Micheals on Colorado Ave.

He was bummed to end up at a craft shop instead of the dog park -- but he couldn't really blame Mary for his disappointment. He hadn't articulated his desires very well.

I'll sign your football

Now that football season is underway, Invesco Field explodes during a home game as Broncos fans cheer for Peyton Hills, Champ Bailey and the rest of the boys in blue and orange.

But tonight, BlogDog was pleased to find himself the biggest celebrity at the stadium.

Danke schön, bratwurst vendors

BlogDog made it to Oktoberfest Denver today in its new location between 20th and 22nd Streets on Larimer St.

Festival planners recently announced that this is the last year of this event -- and BlogDog wanted to catch a final whiff of brats in the air.

I'm a short Russian doll

The parishioners of All Saints of Russia Orthodox church held their Russian Firebird Festival today. Visitors had the chance to experience Russian culture though food, music, crafts, dance, dress and games.

BlogDog had that chance to experience looking like a little Russian doll. (That's his head poking through on the right.)

Oh, skateboarding allowed!?

BlogDog was out for an average stroll in Capitol Hill when he noticed that someone had defaced the "No Skateboarding Allowed" sign.

Worried that skateboarding might occur, he insisted upon standing guard until the proper authorities arrived to ensure that not a moment of this offensive activity would take place.

Breakin' the law, breakin' the law

Wild rebel BlogDog snuck behind the "Do Not Trespass" signs at the light rail station.

His rebellious instincts didn't last long. He sniffed a bit, then decided to come back around the join Mary and her friend.

Where was BlogDog Wednesday?

It's Wednesday -- and that means it's time to answer, "Where was BlogDog Wednesday?"
For this edition, BlogDog headed to the outpost of one of his favorite places. Do you know where the second Snooze location, which opened on July 31, is located?
To find out, click here.

Rack 'em up

A little more than a decade ago, lower downtown Denver (now known by the hip moniker, LoDo) was a warehouse district.

Many of those warehouses have been converted into pricey lofts and fun hangouts, such as the Wynkoop Brewing Company at 18th and Wynkoop.

BlogDog may not look like he was having much fun in this picture, but he was just tired of hearing Mary explain the history of the place -- and eager to grab a Railyard Ale and shoot some pool.

September 14, 2009

Stand off at the Children's Museum

BlogDog seemed to know this bull in front of the Children's Museum wasn't real -- but Mary can't be sure.

He really gave it an intense stare and wouldn't get any closer.

September 13, 2009

Waving the Broncos flag

On opening day for Denver's NFL team, BlogDog felt drawn to this house in the Hilltop neighborhood with the Broncos flag waving proudly outside.

Most of the sports-loving fans in the city erupted with pride later that afternoon, when the Bronco's Stokely completed an 87-yard touchdown in the last seconds of the game, bringing the Broncos to a 12-7 win in their season opener against the Bengals.

BlogDog does environmentally responsilble

Dozens of trailers were set up at Invesco Field to take in old computers, televisions, cell phones, and any other aged electronic equipment during a free electronics recycling day today.

Matt and Mary were overjoyed to responsibly rid themselves of a bedraggled computer they have been living with for nearly 18 months. It would be hard to argue BlogDog got anything out of the experience.

Got it!: Weekend Doggie Double

Cherry Creek is a small creek, running northwest through Denver. At one time, it was the boundary between Denver and Auraria, which were later consolidated into one city.

Now, with bike path running next to it, it's a fun place to run, bike -- or, if you are BlogDog, aggressively chase rocks.

The seasons change, change, change

Labor Day is behind us. Sunset comes a little earlier and everyone is saying there's "that chill" in the air in the mornings. Yes, although we are still enjoying lovely, warm days -- it's clear that fall is coming.
But for the young boy with the hose and his older sister in this statue in Cherry Creek, it's always summer -- which is how Mary would like it as well.
BlogDog will stoically take on whatever comes his way.

September 9, 2009

But I would look so handsome in latte

BlogDog pawed his way over to the Studio 6 Coffee House, a small, unassuming coffee shop at 910 Santa Fe that has been featured on the Today Show.

Shop owner and master barista Michael Keen chatted with Al Roker, Matt Lauer and crew while demonstrating his mad latte drawing skills. (You really have to check it out.)

BlogDog asked very politely if he might get his picture drawn in latte foam. The kid behind the counter recommended we return when the owner was working. He said it was his second day of work and he wasn't a good artist.

Just little ol' BlogDog, walking nicely by

As regular My Dog in Denver Daily.com readers know, BlogDog lived at the MaxFund for about three months before he was adopted into his "forever home" with Matt and Mary.

Although they could be imagining it, Matt and Mary would swear BlogDog is on his most submissive and attentive behavior whenever they walk by the place.

September 7, 2009

No work on Labor Day

In recognition of Labor Day, BlogDog thought it would be appropriate to visit the Colorado Department of Labor and Employment. The organization has several offices in Denver, including this one on 12th and Grant.
It was pretty quiet though, as no one was actually laboring there today.

September 6, 2009

Many tastes of Colorado

Civic Center Park is closed down this weekend for A Taste of Colorado, a "Western heritage" festival that draws half a million people, put on by the Downtown Denver Partnership. The festival is free, but dogs are not allowed.

So early this morning, Mary tried to sneak BlogDog in before the festival started for the day.

Guards at every entry point meant BlogDog was denied entry. But no guard could stop him from having his fill of leftover funnel cake and hot dogs.

Me and the sign-flipping guy

Sports Authority's annual pre-season sale, Sniagrab ("Bargains spelled backwards", for those readers who don't live in Denver and haven't been inundated with ads for this sale every September for more than 50 years,) started today.

Shoppers, some of whom have been camping outside the store on 10th and Broadway for more than a week, headed in for deals on gear and ski passes.

BlogDog spent some time checking out the scene outside the store, which included food stands, radio broadcasts and trampoline performers. And, he eventually became buddies with the sign holder guy.

September 4, 2009

Showtime?

BlogDog heard great things about the shows at the Denver Center for the Performing Arts in downtown Denver. He was eager to expand his cultural horizons and take in a performance at the Buell Theater.

However, he ran into trouble because, honestly, he doesn't know how to read a schedule.

September 3, 2009

Use your strengths

Curious about the best ways to defend himself from others who may covet his snacks, BlogDog met with Professor Larry King at Easton Brazilian Jui-Jitsu on 4th and Broadway.

Professor King instructed BlogDog on the many effective self-defense techniques of Brazilian Jui-Jitsu.

At the end, he commented, "Of course, in a real street fight, a dog such as yourself might find it more effective to bite the antagonist."

Laughter! Acrobatics! Heartfelt emotion!

Cirque de Soleil "Kooza" is showing in Denver through September 27. Performer flip and flow inside the blue and yellow striped "Grand Chapiteau" set up outside the Pepsi Center.

The ads promise "Laughter! Acrobatics! Heartfelt emotion!"

BlogDog was pretty excited just by just walking around the tent and checking it out.
