A final Mile High moment

Humbled by all the nice comments from his readers, BlogDog posed for his last picture at the Mile High marker on the steps of the Colorado Capitol Building, back where it began 365 days ago.

Mary and Matt shook his paw and congratulated him on his year of exploring Denver and all its delights. After a moment, BlogDog wrestled his paw away so he could start sniffing around and looking for squirrels.

Just another attraction in the Mile High City

For BlogDog’s second to last post, he wanted to highlight another of Denver’s many cultural amenities. “Too many people think Denver is just a cow town,” he explained to Matt.

He began to think of a new attraction to visit.

The Denver Art Museum? Been there.

The Denver Zoo? There too.

The Black American West Museum? Yes.

The
Forney Transportation Museum? Seen it.

The Denver Museum of Nature and Science? Loved it.

The Molly Brown House Museum? Yup.

The Byers-Evans House Museum? Also.

Wings Over the Rockies Air and Space Museum? Check.

The Colorado History Museum? More than once.

The Children’s Museum? Oh, yea.

The Stiles African-American Heritage Center? There too.

The Museum of Contemporary Art? Yes, sir.

The Downtown Aquarium? Yes, ma'am.

The Denver Botanical Garden? A flowery yes.

The Denver Fire Department Museum? Positive.

Finally, he decided to visit the Kirkland Museum of Fine and Decorative Art on 13th and Pearl. He quite enjoyed learning about 20th century design.

It's coming to Fruition

With 362 posts complete, Matt and Mary began to plan where they should go to toast BlogDog when mydogindenverdaily.com ends in three days.

They decided Fruition seemed like an appropriately named choice. (Plus, thanks to a generous Christmas gift from BlogDog's uncle, they have a gift certificate to this well-reviewed restaurant.)

Since the establishment doesn't permit even super cute, semi-famous pups inside, Matt felt obligated to take BlogDog on his own outing the restaurant, located at 6th Ave. and Marion St.

Where was BlogDog Wednesday?

For his fourth to last post and final edition of "Where was BlogDog Wednesday?," BlogDog thought he would seek out design inspiration for the monument he expects will follow once the city realizes his contribution to society.

Do you know where this lovely fountain is?

Lights, colors, smells

During her 360 days of photographing around the city, Mary has become increasingly alert to her surroundings. She is far more observant than she used to be of new businesses, unusual signs and colorful buildings -- such as this one at the corner of Lincoln and Fifth Ave.

Now, streets look as interesting to her as they have always smelled to BlogDog.

A wise dog once told me...

Now that BlogDog is down to his sixth-to-last post, he wonders what the future will hold for him. Would he still travel? Start a new career? Invest in a bone business?

He briefly considered investigating these questions with the Psychic of Cherry Creek, but decided against it. Instead, he opted to go with the age-old doggie philosophy of "Live in the moment."

Huston, we have a problem

The scene: Huston Lake Park at Zuni and W. Ohio

Mary: "BlogDog, sit."

BlogDog: "These leaves are scratchy."

Mary: "BlogDog, buddy -- sit."

BlogDog: "Sitting is over-rated."

Mary, moving closer: "Sit!"

BlogDog: "Not going to happen."

Mary: "What's up, Bloggy? Sit! This picture is for your your seventh-to-last post. Don't you want to look cute and approachable?'

BlogDog: "I must be ready for action. Do you see the attitude on the geese around this place?"

Pretty good with a snow ball

Since this is BlogDog's eighth-to-last post, he is feeling a little pressure to make sure everyone remembers him as a sweet, fun-loving dog with great athletic prowess.

So he insisted on heading to Garfield Lake in southwest Denver to show off some of his mad snowball-chasing skills.

League of champions

With only nine days left to get photographed in some of Denver's hot spots, BlogDog headed to the Dumb Friends League at 2080 S. Quebec St.

While BlogDog has a fond place in his heart for his one-time home, the MaxFund, he has to give two paws up to this institution, which has given temporary shelter to some of Denver's finest pooches.

The fuss over a blue horse

With just 10 posts remaining, Blogdog thought he ought to visit one of Denver's more notorious pieces of public art, "Blue Mustang."

Unlike the big blue bear at the convention center, the 32-foot blue mustang at the airport has caused dismay and controversy during the nearly two years it has been in place. Its glowing red eyes and aggressive pose are not what visitors want to see when they first land in the Mile High City, critics argue.

As usual, BlogDog stayed out of the controversy and focused on the potential for spotting small rodents.

Where was BlogDog Wednesday?

Less than a dozen posts and only two more editions remain of everyone's favorite wandering pup feature, "Where was BlogDog Wednesday?"

See if you can recognize where BlogDog is in this photo.

And, if you click through for the answer, you'll notice the fence has been painted and redone since the Google photo was taken.

Making inroads at Machebeuf

Mary and BlogDog stopped by Bishop Machebeuf High School at 458 Uinta Way in the Lowry area. They left with many questions.

What victory were the students celebrating when they wrote on the bus windows?

Do the Bishop Machebeuf Buffaloes ever get mistaken for the University of Colorado Buffaloes?

How do you say Machebeuf anyhow?

Paw painting?

Meininger Art Supply, on 5th and Broadway, is a dream for anyone vaguely artistically inclined. Fancy papers, colored pencils, journals and canvases can make even the least creative person imagine herself an artiste.

Even BlogDog seemed strangely drawn to the place.

Consider the possibilities

Mary wasn't sure how BlogDog would react to the field of geese outside the Denver Museum of Nature and Science.

Given his history of bolting after squirrels and pigeons, she kept a tight hold on his leash when they got out of the car.

He was quite alert at first, as he surveyed the field. His ears perked up when some nearby geese took flight. But then, he just sat down and watched peacefully, almost as if pondering the beauty of nature.

It's all about the wind in my face

The Forney Museum of Transportation, at 4303 Brighton Ave., promotes itself as a "one-of-a-kind collection of over 500 exhibits relating to historical transportation." The current hot ticket exhibit is a bright yellow 1923 Kissel Speedster owned by Amelia Earhart.

Once BlogDog discovered he would not be able to stick his head out of the window of any of the vehicles, he asked Matt why they even bothered to visit.

New year announcement from your buddy, BlogDog

Happy 2010, loyal My Dog in Denver Daily readers! BlogDog wishes with all his doggie-heart that you had a wonderful kick off to the new decade.

BlogDog, Matt and Mary would also like to use this day to share a big decision they have made. Since the start of this blog, we have teamed up to bring more than 350 pictures of BlogDog in different locations through out Denver. We have explored new parts of the city and discovered neighborhoods and attractions we may not otherwise have ever visited. The blog has been a big part of our lives in 2009.

After much though, however, we have decided to end the blog on January 16, 2010 -- exactly one year after it began. We decided 365 pictures of any one dog -- even one as wise and cute as BlogDog -- is as many as the world needs. We will miss sharing these moments, but look forward to having more time to dedicate to other interests and hobbies.

So, we are on the countdown now, with just 15 days left of new photos for My Dog in Denver Daily.com. The blog will stay up for at least another year, so if you need a little BlogDog love, you will be able to look through the archives and cherish your favorite BlogDog moments.

And you can be sure that, although we will not be posting pictures, BlogDog will still be out and about in the Mile High City. Keep your eyes open for this cute mutt on the streets of Denver!
