A moment of gratitude: Weekend Doggie Double

Matt and Mary adopted BlogDog from the MaxFund more than three years ago.

They are all grateful to this no-kill shelter for keeping BlogDog for months before Matt and Mary found him and made him their best buddy.

BlogDog's heart starts pounding when they visit the shelter. Mary is not sure if he remembers his time there -- or is just on high alert in case the cat statue comes to life.

If you live in Colorado and are thinking about adopting or fostering a dog, be sure to look at the MaxFund.

Still night with BlogDog

BlogDog danced the jitterbug at the prospect of getting to see Tom Robbins speak tonight at the Tattered Cover in LoDo.

"This is not just another roadside attraction," BlogDog explained. "He's the author of eight novels and he's reading from his newest work, 'B' is for Beer, at Denver's coolest independent bookstore."

When BlogDog couldn't get his paws on a ticket to the event, he got the blues. He grabbed a few of Robbins' books and read until he was half asleep.

Where was BlogDog Wednesday?

Each Wednesday, BlogDog shows up in a new location in Denver and we ask, "Where was BlogDog Wednesday?"

Think you have seen this crazy painted wall and remember where it was? To find out if you are right, click here.

Don't forget, there are still a few more days to share your good ideas about where YOU think BlogDog should go during Reader Suggestion Week, May 3-9.

The world is my gym

If BlogDog worked out, he'd probably go to the Twentieth Street Gymnasium, a boxing gym, located in a cool, old historic building. It's part of the Denver rec system and membership costs only $150 a year.

Of course, BlogDog sees anywhere that isn't his bed as a great place to work out.

April 27, 2009

To each his own

There's a great view of downtown Denver from the City Park Golf Course just off Colorado Ave.

Not being a golfer and not really appreciating scenic views of urban areas, BlogDog preferred to concentrate his efforts on running in circles.

If you have an idea where BlogDog should go during Reader Suggestion Week, May 3-9, be sure to leave a comment. BlogDog is starting to plan his week, but is still open to new ideas.

The Cherry Creek Sneak, Doggie start

More than 10,000 runners participated in the 27th Annual Cherry Creek Sneak today. The event included a 3.1 run/walk, a 5-mile run and two kids events.

There were no dog events, so BlogDog started the race on his own.

Then he ran and ran and ran, faster than any dog has run before and caught up with the crowds.

OK, that may not be totally true -- but that's his story and he's sticking to it.

When I hit the big time...

Some of BlogDog's buddies think he must live an exciting life. When they learn he has his own blog, they imagine he gets to hunt squirrels in exotic locations throughout Denver and is chauffeured from site to site in a limousine.

The reality is way less glamorous.

The big blue bear: Weekend Doggie Double

One of Denver's most beloved pieces of public art is the statue, "I See What You Mean" --which most people know as "the big blue bear at the Denver Convention Center." (If you have a second to check out something cool, watch this short video on the installation of the statue.)

At first, BlogDog really dug it. So did Mary and special guest photographer, Lauren. They took a lot of pictures trying to capture the 40-foot statue and 2-foot BlogDog in the same image.

By the time they were done, BlogDog was ready to split. "Are you kidding me? Another picture of me and the bear?" he asked.

April 23, 2009

BlogDog goes Greek

Last week, BlogDog visited the offices of Denver Public Schools. He tried to take the academic route, but it didn't much suit his style.

Visiting fraternity houses at Denver University was way more his scene. He'll never tell what went on behind those doors.

If you haven't put in a suggestion yet on where BlogDog should go for Reader Suggestion Week, take a moment to do it! Honestly, you're not that busy.

BlogDog wants your suggestions!

BlogDog crossed a foot bridge over Cherry Creek near LoDo and paused to reflect where he had been -- and where he should go next.

In order to decide, he is looking for advice from his very favorite folks -- fans of BlogDog!

May 3-9 is Readers' Choice Week at mydogindenverdaily.com.

Is there a place in Denver you think BlogDog should check out?

Do you have a business in Denver you would like him to stop by for a photo op?

Maybe you live outside of Denver and want to see a pic of a resturant you enjoyed while you were in the Mile High City?

Then, post your suggestion for a great place for BlogDog to visit in the comments by clicking on "Comments" (in tiny letters) directly beneath this post below or e-mail them to blogdog (at) mydogindenverdaily (dot) com.

BlogDog will review all suggestions and select seven readers' choices to visit the week of May 3-9. If your location is selected, you will get a special BlogDog shout out and a grand sense of victory and success.

Protecting our pennies

The U.S. Mint at 320 W. Colfax Ave. in Denver is one of four coin-producing mints in the United States -- and one of two that produce currency. (The other two produce only commemorative coins.)

Security at the facility is high. Public tours are cancelled if the national security threat is raised to level orange or above.

During this visit, BlogDog seemed to believe he had a personal responsibility to protect the mint from danger. Matt thought BlogDog looked like he might scare off a few tourists as well.

April 19, 2009

They should call it "Doors Open (but not to four-legged friends) Denver"

BlogDog strolled around the city Sunday, visiting venues that opened their doors to the public as part of Doors Open Denver, a "free two-day event that allows you to go behind the scenes of the city’s significant architectural gems and lesser-known treasures."

He was really excited to check out Market Street Station on 16th and Market Streets, until a security guard informed him that the doors were not open to dogs.

BlogDog vowed to start "Doggie Doors Open Denver" next year, a competing event that highlights all the locations that welcome canines in the Mile High City.

A day for porterhouse flavored T-Bonz and a nap

The cold rain continued for the third consecutive day in Denver. Puddles built up in the streets.

BlogDog spent the day like many Denverites. He picked up some snacks and spent the afternoon curled up on his bed.

April 17, 2009

Not one of the 300+ days of sunshine we are always bragging about: Weekend Doggie Double

BlogDog loves to go for walks. He's ready anytime to go anywhere under any circumstances.

The slushy, wet snow falling this afternoon did nothing to dampen his enthusiasm for a visit to Cheeseman Park.

Neither did having to stop for what he thought was a ridiculous picture.

April 16, 2009

That's no Italian opera

BlogDog is a gentleman, so he thought he should visit La Boheme, a gentlemen's cabaret at 1143 Stout St.

He was a bit alarmed and left quickly.

Where was BlogDog Wednesday?

Today is "Where was BlogDog Wednesday?" But before we start, BlogDog would like to ask, "Don't you wonder where I was every day?"

If the answer is "Yes," consider subscribing to receive daily updates by e-mail. Just type your e-mail into the box at the top of the sidebar, confirm your subscription and you'll never miss a day with BlogDog again.

Still have questions? Read the FAQ below.

Q: Why would I want to get an e-mail from my dog in denver daily.com each morning?
A: You have a busy life and although BlogDog is a part of it, you may forget to check him out each day. But you don't forget to check your e-mail. By subscribing, BlogDog will be waiting patiently in your inbox at the start of each day to make you smile and help you see a little more of Denver.

Q: Won't signing up for the daily e-mail mean I'll get added to more lists and get more spam?
A: No way! Matt, Mary and BlogDog are the only ones with access to this list (besides Feedburner, you can read their privacy policies
here.) And we would never share it, with anyone, ever, promise. That would be so lame.

Q: What if I sign up then get tired of seeing BlogDog every day and want to unsubscribe?
A: That's impossible. To know BlogDog is to love him. To know him more is to love him more. But unsubscribing is easy. Click "Unsubscribe now" at the bottom of any e-mail. One more click and it's good bye BlogDog forever (or until you resubscribe.)

Convinced? Good. Sign up now and then read on to figure out "Where was BlogDog Wednesday?"

They don't teach you how to stalk squirrels in school

BlogDog is wise in many ways. His wisdom comes from a lifetime of travels. Book smart he is not.

But that didn't stop him from trying to look the part when he visited the Denver Public School administration building on 9th Ave. and Grant today.

April 13, 2009

I should be in pictures (or at least Target ads)

Although BlogDog prefers to shop at locally owned businesses, he has to admit he likes Target.

They carry an abundant selection of dog treats. They hire good-looking pharmacists and their team members are "fast, fun and friendly."

BlogDog visited the store on Alameda and Colorado Aves. to try to persuade executives to consider a cute, brindle-colored, middle age pup as their new mascot.

"That white bull terrier is played out," he argued.

April 12, 2009

A day for green eggs and ham

In recognition of the holiday, Mary put together an Easter egg hunt for BlogDog.

He was only moderately interested in the event at first. His enthusiasm increased dramatically with the introduction of projectile eggs.

April 11, 2009

Wondering WWJB?

BlogDog visited Bonnie Brae Flowers today to shop for flowers. He was looking for a gift to bring to an Easter brunch he will be attending tomorrow.

The shop offers so many lovely choices, how is a doggie supposed to decide?

Right on, Rockies!: Weekend Doggie Double

The Rockies whipped some Phillies bootie today, winning 10-3 at their home season opener.

BlogDog was late for the game, which began 2:10 pm -- but he cruised downtown in plenty of time for the post-game scene.

The after-party offers an abundance of joys for BlogDog.

You wouldn't believe the half-eaten hot dogs and sausage nuggets people drop on the ground when they have been drinking!

What does BlogDog have in common with every 20th century president?

The Brown Palace Hotel, located at the triangular intersection of Broadway, Tremont and 17th Street in downtown Denver, is one of the most elegant hotels in the city.

Opened in 1894 and meticulously maintained -- it's an amazing piece of Denver history. Every U.S. president since 1905 (with the exception of Calvin Coolidge) has visited The Brown Palace.

Now, so has BlogDog.

Hip to the local music scene

3OH!3 is a "Boulder-based hip-hop outfit" whose posters are plastered on a wall on Colfax Ave. Their name is a play on the local 303 area code in Boulder, Aurora and Denver.

The duo is performing at the Fox Theater in their home city tomorrow night.

Although BlogDog won't be attending, he likes to think he could still rock out with the young pups -- at least for a while.

April 6, 2009

On alert on Lincoln St.

BlogDog jumped up on the wall on the corner of 12th Ave. and Lincoln St. to survey the scene.

BlogDog believes even the most ordinary scene has the potential to erupt instantly into a thrilling event should a squirrel peer around the corner. Constant vigilance is required at all times.

April 5, 2009

BlogDog discovers his Urban Roots

Urban Roots is a small, independent garden shop at 10th Ave. and Acoma St.

Many customers speak very highly of the shop.

BlogDog speaks highly of the shade offered by the sale sign -- particularly if you are under two feet tall and don't mind plopping down in the middle of the sidewalk.

April 4, 2009

Maybe a little bit of boxer...

BlogDog visited D-Town Boxing on Santa Fe Ave. and spent some time in the ring.

Some people say he looks like a boxer.

He might have a little boxer in him, but he's definitely a good, old-fashioned mutt.

April 3, 2009

Do dog tags count as ID?: Weekend Doggie Double

BlogDog doesn't drink much. His weeks just aren't that stressful and he prefers to remain in control at all times.

But having made many trips to the liquor store with Matt and Mary, he has started forming opinions about domestic vs. imported brews.

April 2, 2009

Spending time with saplings

BlogDog spent some time in the garden section of Home Depot on S. Santa Fe Drive.

You would think BlogDog doesn't know much about planting saplings -- and you would be right. But he does know that it's great to be outside!
