Today, the last Monday in March, Denver observed Cesar Chavez Day.
Chavez (1927-1993) was a Mexican-American organizer and co-founder of the United Farm Workers Union who worked tirelessly to improve the conditions of migrant farm workers throughout the West. The city of Denver has named a park and building in his honor and he is a hero in many communities.
For those not familiar with this important activist, the holiday is cool because the parking meters are free for the day.
